Vandal Doughnuts

If you’re a fan of doughnuts, you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you did not stop by  this tasty north-end Halifax shop.  Vandal Doughnuts has over 20 flavours to choose from, including Boston cream, lemon meringue, strawberry shortcake, apple fritter, and cookies n cream.

BUBBLE WAFFLE

Portland Street Crêperie

Located in Downtown Dartmouth (just a quick drive, ferry ride, or walk across the bridge from Halifax), Portland Street Crêperie is a hot spot for crepes. The restaurant is touted as “a Nova Scotia twist on a European favourite.” They have classic sweet flavours like lemon sugar and Nutella, alongside savoury selections like The Spicy Fiesta and The Donair. The crêperie has also introduced their take on a traditional Hong Kong Treat – the Bubble Waffle. During the summer months, the shop opens a bubble waffle and ice cream window, tempting taste buds with concoctions like The Unicorn and The Jolly Rancher, or the option to build your own.

CHEESECAKE

The Sweet Hereafter Cheesecakery

The Sweet Hereafter does one thing and they do it well – cheesecake! The shop’s rich and delicious desserts are sold by the slice or by the cake. They have a plethora of gluten free options, as well as some vegan.

The Middle Spoon

If you’re in the mood for a decadent dessert, The Middle Spoon is the place to go. With choices like cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding, and, my favourite, the chocolate lava cake, you won’t regret the calories! If you’re a peanut butter lover, you may want to try the peanut butter pie, it’s the most popular dessert on the menu. The Spoon also has soups, salads, sandwiches, and cocktails.

BeaverTails

BeaverTails are a delicious Canadian treat that can be found on the Halifax Waterfront or at the Emera Oval. The fried dough pastry is shaped to look like a beaver’s tail, hence the company’s name. The pastry is paired with a variety of sweet toppings like cinnamon and sugar, maple, or chocolate hazelnut. My favourite (pictured above) is the Killaloe Sunrise, which is topped with cinnamon and sugar and a slice of lemon to squeeze on the pastry.

Cow’s Ice Cream

Located on the Halifax Waterfront, Cow’s Ice Cream is the perfect place to get a cone. The Canadian chain originated on Prince Edward Island, but has grown to have locations all across the country. Their handmade ice cream comes in flavours like Brownie Explosion, Bubble Gum, Cookie Monster, and Moo Crunch, as well as the more traditional flavours like chocolate and vanilla. In addition to ice cream, Cow’s also sells cheeky cow themed clothing and other goods.

Layers is located in Halifax’s south-end. They make beautiful wedding cakes, but also have the tastiest cupcakes!
