Medical Info

If you are travelling to Nova Scotia, or anywhere in Canada, it is important to have health insurance to cover any potential healthcare costs that you could incur while visiting. Canada does not pay for medical services for visitors.

If you are suffering from a medical emergency, dial 911 on your phone. An operator will assist you and send an ambulance to your location if necessary. There is a fee for ambulance services.

Nova Scotia also provides a telecare service. Dial 811 on your phone to reach a nurse who can give you advice on everything from the flu to frost bite. 811 provides services in over 125 different languages.

If you require non-emergency medical services, you can visit a walk-in health clinic. Click here for a list of clinics in the Halifax area.
